Tough Call: A Mediation Podcast

Tough Call: A Mediation Podcast invites the general public to look at conflict resolution creatively, legally, and with humor. Conflict is inevitable, but how we resolve it matters. In this podcast, we examine stories and talk to experts about the different ways we handle strife and discord: at home, at work, internally and externally. We look at how art, media, legal cases, and different cultures view and resolve arguments. Each week, listeners can contribute stories or engage in the topics CT and Dale review to make the Tough Calls more manageable through a mediation lens. This podcast is sponsored by ERB Legal LLP, and is hosted on their website: www.erblawservices.com. Subscribe and listen for access to expert advice, resources, and delightful reframing of media.

Concussions are serious business. Only in the past ten years has more awareness and public education started to see a better understanding on how it can impact stress, function, and even issues of capacity. This is a really good way for people to understand how to navigate some of the day-today life, medical and legal issues that face anyone dealing with mental incapacity. This week, CT and Dale sit down with Dr. Shailla Vaidya to discuss these critical issues. CT also discusses Living Wills and why this is so critical for everyone to consider planning this, and shares why she is so passionate about making sure everyone has a proper Will set up.

She is the creator of the Rest Reset Rise! As a “Compassion-it” Change Agent, she is effecting change in the healthcare system by healing our healers and innovating healthcare delivery.

Mike MacConnell is an accredited Family Mediator in private practice under the name Reflective Mediation. He is also the author of a self-help memoire: The Yoga Of Divorce: A Mindful Route to Resolving Disputes. He is Google’s top-ranked Family Mediator in southern Ontario, with over 160 5-star reviews. Mike’s brand is well expressed in the name of his business: REFLECTIVE MEDIATION. He is particularly skilled in helping clients to shift their attitude. Most divorcing clients feel threatened and fearful for the future. Divorce with Dialogue opens new opportunities. He works from the start at reassuring them that the process is safe. Instead of preparing for battle and seeing the other party as the enemy – he provides coaching to develop an Attitude of Gratitude – to shift from conflict to collaboration. You are disentangling yourselves from a dysfunctional story line – this is an opportunity to generate a new script for your lives – one in which you collaborate to provide your children with a mindful model for wholesome conflict management.
Separate Paths – Shared Understanding. His book, the Yoga of Divorce, tells the story of how he choosing conversation over conflict enabled him and his ex to amicably resolve their relationship.

Where Mediation and Inspiration meet

We love peace... so why is it boring? People love to gather around conflict: a fire, a car wreck, a bar fight, a courtroom drama. It can be exciting and also very stressful - and the fallout can be deadly. How can we work towards dispute resolution?

Each week CT Ehler (a Mediator), and her co-host Dale Sheldon (not a Mediator) come together to discuss different types of conflict: in film, social issues, legal cases, advice columns and more. Guests join some times as well to lend their perspective and share their experience. Tune in and share.
